Rosh HaShana Plans
For the holiday, here is what I’ve done/I’m planning on doing.
On Thursday, I went to the Cotel (Western Wall) at 1 in the morning. There, we found many observant Jews praying the Slichot service. The many minions were conducted only in very fast Hebrew, and I was not able to follow it. Instead, I spent time praying at the Cotel, with the words in my heart. Afterwards, we walked to the new city and had a beer.
Tonight I’m attending a short Erev Rosh HaShana service at a Conservative shul here on French Hill. After that, I’m having dinner with the Rabbi at his house. Should be very nice and mind-clearing.
Tomorrow, I’ll walk past the Old City and have Shachrit services at HUC (Hebrew Union College). Services are at 9:00, so I’ll have to leave early. I’m looking forward to services at HUC because it is an option I am much more accustomed to. I brought a copy “Gates of Repentance,” the Reform prayerbook.
If I’m so inclined, on Wednesday, I may go to second day services at a progressive shul, Col HaNishama. Maybe.
